ROOOZ 2016 ‘Growing Roses in Africa is TOPsport’
More than 3.000 visitors, more than 300 rose varieties and an interesting 5 day program: this 2nd edition of ROOOZ assembled not only roses from the past, present and future also people of each level of the chain. To take the rose production chain to a higher level, that is the goal of ROOOZ. The topic of this edition of ROOOZ: ‘Growing roses in Africa is TOPsport’ created a lot of dialogue and creative flower styling.

On Wednesday 15 June Frank Ammerlaan, CEO Rosa Plaza, and inspiring guest speaker Jos Hermens. This former top athlete represents with his company Global Sports Communication management of international top athletes among others Haile Gebrselassie, Florence Kiplagat en Sifan Hassan. Jos also organizes world’s greatest marathons and other events. Like no other Jos knows how it is to work with talents in Kenia and Ethiopia. The cultural differences, difference in development and attitude with the western civilization. With anecdotes and other examples Jos did compare the training camps Jos build for atlehtes in this countries with running rose farms. Jos talks about talent development, always preforming at top level, how to keep up to high expectation etc. Sport appeals people, curtainly in this Olympic year. The guests, buyers and salesmen of the top 30 flowers traders, import and export companies, were all ears.

Buyers contest
Each year, it creates a with a lot of fun for the buyers and salesmen. It is now a tradition: The ROOOZ Buyers Contest at the historical auction clock of 1930.This year on Wednesday: auctioneer Luus Hooyman. Proud winner: Arjan van der Plas of PortalFlora. He received the award ‘Winner ROOOZ buyers contest 2016’.

The next day during Open House trade ROOOZ brought all rose stakeholders of FloraHolland, Plantion and FairTrade/Max Havelaar, Fair Flowers Fair Plants and MPS together. They discussed bout the latest business in roses and the topic ‘Growing Roses in Africa is TOPsport’. For this group ROOOZ also organized a buyers contest, won by Jos Leijster of Plantion.

Creative flower styling
Next to the traditional vases of roses, the students of Wellant College created flower arrangements inspired by the topic ‘Growing roses in Africa is TOPsport’. This arrangements were also their pieces for the exams.

The traditional flat boats were spectacular this year. More than 5.000 roses in arrangements created by flower stylists Inge Quint and Marloes Joore. They created amoung others the Olympic Rings.

Entire chain brought together
From rose breeder till consumer. They all were there. On Saterday and Sunday during the Open House Consumer a lot of people visited ROOOZ, also thanks to co-operation with the Aalsmeer Flower Festival.
